Puri: The Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) will assume responsibility for the one-stop sales counter at Swargadwar cremation ground in Puri town of Odisha.
On the initiative of the Puri district collector, ORMAS on Saturday signed an agreement for the management and sale of different objects used in cremation rituals with Swargadwar Seva Samiti. Puri Deputy Collector Bhabata Charan Sahu on behalf of the Samiti and Deputy Managing Director of ORMAS signed the pact.
Speaking to the media about the deal, Chairman of Puri Zilla Parishad Jyoti Shankar Mohapatra said it will help families, coming to Swargadwar for the cremation of their loved ones, to get all the high quality materials at one price. within reason.
Also, several self-help groups (SHGs) would benefit from the initiative as they would supply their products to Swargadwar. The process of selecting SHGs for this purpose has been completed and they have received sanctioned loans as an incentive, he added.
The assistant collector said the deal would strengthen the Swargadwar’s one-stop shop.
For a good management of the sales counter, a workshop was organized with the participation of Swargadwar volunteers and ORMAS employees on occasion. The ORMAS meter is expected to go into service from August 15, sources said.
