Amid Pakistan’s attempts to rekindle terrorism in Rajouri and Poonch districts along the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu Division, the Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh held a high-level security review with senior army and police officers to formulate an effective strategy to counter terrorist activities.

Both districts have witnessed intensified terrorist incidents in recent days.

Rajouri and Poonch districts were peaceful in recent years after remaining volatile during the peak of terrorism as these mountainous districts were seen as the gateway for terrorists from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

However, IED explosions and the scavenging of weapons and ammunition have once again become commonplace in these neighborhoods. Encounters with terrorists have also occurred in the recent past and four army soldiers were killed in a firefight when terrorists attempted a suicide bombing at a military camp. Two Pakistani terrorists have been eliminated. Long-lasting encounters were also reported in both districts.

ADGP Mukesh Singh visited Rajouri on Saturday where he held a high-level security conference with GOC 25 Division and GOC Romeo Force from the military, intelligence agencies and senior police officers in light of the “Quick Charge Counter-Terrorism Scenario” in the Twin Quarters.

Brigade Commanders from various military formations, Rajouri and Poonch Police Senior Superintendents and SP (Shopian) Operations were also present at the meeting.

A detailed discussion took place on recent trends in terrorist activities in which the intelligence agencies gave the briefing. An action plan has been developed to counter the emerging threat.

The ADGP also visited Thanamandi and was informed by the SSP and SDPO of the suspected movement of terrorists. The ADGP also visited the headquarters of the 2nd battalion of the IRP. The ADGP held separate meetings with police officials and briefed each officer on roles and responsibilities in countering the terrorist threat.

The Northern Army Commander also recently reviewed the security situation in the two districts.
