Bel’Veth Counters: Champions

Bel’Veth is primarily an AD fighter. His passive Lavender Death gives her attack speed that scales throughout the game based on how many jungle camps she clears. However, her high attack speed can definitely be used against her. If players want to counter Bel’Veth, they must choose one of these champions:

  • Rammus – As Bel’Veth is primarily an auto count champion, she is easily abused by Rammus’ ability to reflect damage and massively increase her armor. Not only does his armor utterly decimate Bel’Veth, but his Taunt and Powerball help encase him to prevent him from snowballing and returning to his true form by consuming a Void Coral dropped by a slain champion.
  • Amumu – Amumu, similar to Rammus is also an excellent counter to Bel’Veth. Amumu’s E: Tantrum cooldown is reduced each time he is auto-attacked, accounting for most of Bel’Veth’s damage. Amumu is also only a very good choice if he can survive his early game, with a fantastic ultimate to boot.
  • Poppy – Bel’Veth’s only form of mobility is his Q, Void Surge. This is an omnidirectional dash that allows him to dash 4 times, each direction has its own individual cooldown. This is his primary way to deal damage outside of his autoattacks. Poppy’s W: Steadfast Presence allows Poppy to block all forms of dashes near her. This ability alone can lock down Bel’Veth and remove her from combat if used correctly. It’s a great peeling tool for teammates that Bel’Veth dives on. After being locked in, she’s a much easier target and much less of a threat to the backline.
  • Truckle bed – Trundle is the ultimate 1v1 champion and is a great choice against Bel’Veth. His Q: Chomp steals AD, which is great for taking on Bel’Veth in the early game. Her E: Pillar of Ice can catch up to her by slowing down and blocking her path. On top of that, his Ultimate: Subjugate stealing the target’s stats and health makes any 1v1 a free win. Bel’Veth simply cannot contest a Trundle with its damage.
  • Shen – Shen is another of those champions who counters Bel’Veth via automatic counterattacks. His W: Spirit’s Refuge blocks all forms of auto-attacks against anyone in his Spirit Blade area. Bel’Veth being primarily an auto attack champion is completely negated if she fights in the W of Shen. Shen can also use it on allies as long as they’re standing in the area, which is again fantastic for peeling the back line.

Trading Posts of Bel’Veth: Items

While not all items work on all champions, there are definitely some that can be worth building to counter Bel’Veth.

  • Thornmail/Bramble Vest – One of the best items against auto-attack champions. Both items reflect the damage dealt to their attacker when auto-attacked. On top of that, they both apply anti-heal, which is great against Bel’Veth who usually take the Conqueror rune.
  • Plated Steelcaps – Another great item against auto attacks, Steelcaps reduce damage taken from autos by 12%, making up the majority of Bel’Veth’s damage profile.
  • Zhonya’s Hourglass – A basic mage item that also counters Bel’Veth. Armor is a great stat against her, and invulnerability can help a player block their team to save him before she kills him.
  • Randuin’s Omen / Frozen Heart – These items are great against Bel’Veth as they both reduce her attack speed when she automatically attacks the wearer.

Counters of Bel’Veth: Gameplay

Bel’Veth, like many new League of Legends champions, has a rather intricate and intricate kit. This leaves room for a lot of counterplay in their gameplay. Here are some tips for playing against Bel’Veth:

  • Hold the crowd control for her E Royal Maelstrom. This ability allows her to automatically attack the lowest health target in an area around her, while gaining massive damage reduction and lifesteal. This is an incredibly strong ability for Bel’Veth, as the damage reduction and lifesteal keeps her alive for longer and bigger fights. It’s almost paramount that this ability be negated, so it’s important to maintain some form of crowd control.
  • Understand it Q Void Influx. This allows him to dash in four diagonal directions, each of these directions having its own cooldown. Each direction’s cooldown is shown via an indicator next to its health bar. This ability is her only form of mobility aside from her flash, so keeping track of her dash charges will allow players to knock her back in a more manageable way.

  • Bel’Veth Passive Lavender Death grants bonus attack speed each time she kills a jungle camp. On top of that, she gets a bonus for killing any Void-related monster (i.e. Baron and Rift Herald) which allows her to turn slain allied minions into Void Remora which will push lane into which they were killed. she gets is one of the best ways to make sure Bel’Veth doesn’t go overboard via farming. Picking a champion who can contest neutral objectives and can counter jungle well works especially well in this situation.
  • Although Bel’Veth is an infinite stacking champion, don’t let her early game fool you. She still has incredible dueling potential with her high damage and attack speed, so players should make sure to respect her damage early and call in a teammate if they need to contest objectives against her.
