Former SEC official urges regulators to counter SPAC ‘myths’

By Tom Zanki (March 11, 2022, 12:28 PM EST) – John Coates, a Harvard Law School professor and former head of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, wants regulators to be more outspoken in debunking legal myths that , according to him, have contributed to the boom in particular acquisition companies for acquisition purposes.

John Coates Coates told Law360 in an interview that regulators should be “more aggressive” in countering the myths he says have circulated among SPAC industry proponents and their advisers that make SPACs seem more legally advantageous than justified.
