KAMPAL- The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Katsigazi Tumusiime, has applauded the counter-terrorism officers for the tremendous work done to secure the country.
DIGP Katsigazi said the counter-terrorism officers have done a lot and the public appreciates and is proud of them.
“You have stopped so many terrorist attempts that would have caused much destruction to our fellow citizens. Thank you very much, ”said the deputy chief of police.
He made the remarks during his familiarization tour at the Counter Terrorism Directorate on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Naguru in Kampala.
Katsigazi pointed out that counter-terrorism capabilities are very critical and with limited resources the leadership managed to provide before revealing that more training needs to be done to equip officers with more skills, especially with the advancement in technology.
He added: “We will train you more with the limited resources because it is a matter of prioritization. Now that we have peace, we can’t say when these guys (terrorists) will strike. We have to prepare for this in terms of training and equipment.
Regarding the general welfare of officers, DIGP Katsigazi has pledged to construct more apartments to accommodate all officers in Kampala and later deploy them nationwide.
Counter Terrorism Director AIGP Abas Byakagaba received Katsigazi and explained to him various tasks carried out by the directorate.
The Counter-Terrorism Directorate was established in 2008 to counter threats and acts of terrorism in the country.
Currently, the directorate comprises eleven units including; Intelligence against terrorism, protection of oil and gas, tactical response and tourism, among others.
