Defense Minister interacts with Assam Rifles personnel; Briefed on counter-insurgency operations along the Indo-Burma border

Union Defense Minister – Rajnath Singh today interacted with Assam Rifles and 57th Mountain Division personnel at Mantripukhari Army Station in Imphal; and commended their unwavering efforts to protect the borders, despite the challenges faced given the hilly terrain.

“India’s borders are protected and secure thanks to the sacrifice of the Indian army and its troops,” he said.

Singh also interacted with nearly 1,000 officials and soldiers at IGAR (South) to learn more about their problems faced and other concerns.

“I always feel happy, proud and at peace; every time I interact with the jawans and officers of our armed forces. Everyone serves the country, including teachers, doctors and others, but what our warriors do goes beyond their job and duty,” Singh said.

“The role of Indian security forces plays a key role in securing the borders, which is more vital than anything else,” he continued.

During the visit, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was briefed on counter-insurgency and border management operations on the Indo-Burma border, to ensure peace and tranquility in the region.

Singh expressed his desire to join the army and said, “I also wanted to join the army, but somehow I couldn’t. It is always a “feeling of pride” to meet the jawans of the army.

“The army chief is aware of the courage and bravery our soldiers showed during the confrontation in Indochina, this country will always be indebted to you,” he said.

He also hailed the stellar role of the Assam Rifles over the past seven decades; and their immense contribution to internal security, securing the Indo-Burma border and its key role in integrating the northeast into the “regional mainstream”.

Earlier on Thursday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to servicemen who lost their lives in the Tupul landslide in Manipur in July this year.

Singh also met the family members of the staff and gave seven lakh checks to each martyr’s wife. The events took place at “Virangana samman samaroh” at the Bengdubi military post in Bagdogra Siliguri.
