Vizianagaram: The District Cooperative Marketing Society (DCMS) has started supplying seeds, fertilizers and pesticides to farmers during the Kharif season. The company has opened a counter in Vizianagaram and Bobbili. Dr. Avanapu Bhavana, Chairman of DCMS launched the special fertilizer and seed counter at the office on Wednesday. Co-Director of Agriculture VT Ramarao, Marketing Director of DCMS P Sai Kumar, directors and other officials were featured on the occasion.
At least 90,811 hectares of paddy are cultivated in the current Kharif season in the district. Farmers need 41,850 quintals of seed to complete paddy sowing. Therefore, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has been providing seed as well as fertilizer at subsidy rates to farmers through Rythu Bharosa Kendralu (RBK) and other agricultural agencies. However, few farmers face difficulties in getting the seeds in time for various reasons.
DCMS officials provided farmers with MTU-1121, Sona Masuri and Sambha Masuri seeds and urea, DAP and potash fertilizers through special counters.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhavana said, “We have not been able to supply seeds and fertilizers through DCMS for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, I am happy to supply the seed and fertilizer with government subsidy rates to farmers this We are offering Rs 10 subsidy per kilo of seed We have launched the special meters with the aim of supplying at least 1,000 tons of fertilizer, 150 tons of seeds and 100 tons of pesticides through DCMS this year Chief A Vikram and others participated in the program.
