Ayatollah Khamenei stresses need to counter enemy propaganda machine

TEHRAN — In his speech on Saturday, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, drew the nation’s attention to a relatively new phenomenon that touches the “soul and heart” of large swaths of the world. Iranian population: the media war.

After two years of corona-related restrictions on his public appearances, the leader visited Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum on Saturday to address the people on the 33rd anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s passing.

In his televised address, Ayatollah Khamenei addressed a variety of issues of paramount importance internally. He talked about the steely personality of Imam Khomeini, the uniqueness of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in history, the links between state and society and the vast propaganda machine of the enemy, among other issues.

The leader stressed the need to refrain from ignoring the role of enemies against Iran. He spoke of this role in the context of addressing Iran’s achievements and failures. Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran has made great breakthroughs in all areas such as democracy, scientific achievements, diplomatic and economic affairs and public services. “To deny these achievements is an injustice. Of course, we have also had our share of failures. In other words, we had both achievements, weaknesses and failures,” he said, according to a reading published by khamenei.ir.

He said, “Of course, the role of the camp of high-profile enemies since the victory of the Revolution and until today should not be ignored. It is not the Islamic Republic that gave birth to this enmity. On the contrary, because the Islamic Republic is opposed to oppression, arrogance, decadence and in favor of spirituality by nature, oppressors, arrogant powers, wrongdoers and those who oppose spirituality naturally show hostility towards him.

The main reason for this enmity, Ayatollah Khamenei said, was Imam Khomeini’s determined separation from the West.

The leader then referred to the plots of the enemies against the Islamic Republic, highlighting two of the plots of the enemies in this regard.

“In the first plot, the enemies pinned their hopes on popular protests to harm the country. They try all kinds of tricks to turn the people against the Islamic Republic, including: psychological work on the people, internet activities, spending money and employing mercenaries,” he said, adding that the second conspiracy is to promote a misconception about the impending decline of the Islamic Republic.

He noted: “Evil people said at the beginning of the Revolution that the Revolution would fall within six months. Later, when their calculation turned out to be wrong, they promised that it would fall within the next six months. But today, more than eighty of these six months have passed in the life of the Revolution, and this sapling has grown into a vigorous and strong tree. Their current calculations are wrong, just as they were in the past.

To counter the propaganda of the enemies against Iran, the leader gave some advice regarding the psychological warfare of the enemies. One of these tips was to expose the lies of the enemies and their psychological warfare.

Ayatollah Khamenei said enemies are constantly distorting the truth about Iran. He pointed to Iran’s recent seizure of two Greek tankers in the Persian Gulf as an example.

“Some time ago the Greek government stole some of our country’s oil due to an order from the Americans. But when the valiant and dedicated soldiers of the Islamic Republic confiscated the enemy oil vessel, they accused Iran of theft through their vast propaganda machines. But they were the ones who stole our oil. Taking back something that has been stolen is not an act of theft,” he said.

Iranian officials constantly warn against enemy propaganda against Iran. Esmail Khatib, Iran’s intelligence minister, said on Sunday that the enemies had mobilized all their facilities to wreak havoc in Iran.

In a speech at a meeting with senior intelligence and military officials in Zahedan, Khatib offered a similar assessment of enemy efforts against Iran. He said the haters are currently focusing on three things: First, they are betting on protests and rallies. Second, the “terrorist movements” that have been undertaken by Israel. Third, the enemies seek to smear Islamic Iran in the eyes of the people through social media platforms.

“Unfortunately, the enemy media has a drum whose beat is not only shrill and grating, but also leaves a lasting mark. [impact] on the soul and heart of our youth. The front of Islam and revolution will, with God’s help, achieve victory despite all the efforts of the enemies,” Khatib said, according to the official IRNA news agency.
