Navneet and Ravi Rana arrested by Mumbai police
Amid the ongoing row of loudspeakers in Maharashtra, a high-tension drama unfolded outside the home of Independent MP Navneet Rana in Mumbai after she vowed to recite Hanuman Chalisa with her MLA husband Ravi Rana outside Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray ‘Matoshree’ residence. Following this, Shiv Sena workers staged a massive protest outside Rana’s house on Saturday, after which the duo canceled their trip to the CM’s residence.
Instead of dispersing the crowd of workers gathered outside the Rana residence with an ambulance for the ‘Bunty-Babli’ couple, the Mumbai police arrested Navneet and Ravi Rana on the basis of a complaint filed under the IPC Section 153A by Shiv Sainiks.
“A case is registered at Khar police station against MP Ravi Rana and MP Navneet Kaur Rana under Sections 153(A), 34, IPC r/w 37(1) 135 Bombay police act. Both are arrested from their home in Khar. Further investigation is being carried out by Khar PS,” the Mumbai police said.
Before being taken into custody, Ravi Rana said the police were trying to force them out of their residence and added that they would not bow down. “Police are trying to take us from here. We will recite Hanuman Chalisa. You can file 10 complaints against us. We will not bow down,” Ravi Rana proclaimed. The BJP also strongly criticized their arrest and criticized the state government for abusing its power.
Navneet and Ravi Rana will be produced in front of Bandra Court (Holiday bench) tomorrow. “Police are collecting all videos and images from the couple’s press conferences for analysis,” Mumbai police said.
