Chairman of the Shura Council meets with UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism


Doha– The Chairman of the Shura Council, HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, met on Sunday with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office against Terrorism (UNOCT), HE Vladimir Voronkov, who is currently visiting the country.

During the meeting, they discussed aspects of cooperation between the Shura Council and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office and ways to strengthen them, in addition to the efforts of the United Nations Office for Parliamentary Participation in prevention and fight against terrorism, based in Doha, in the light of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties.

The meeting also discussed the participation of the Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism in the Doha Forum 2022, the fourth session of the strategic dialogue between the State of Qatar and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office, and the high-level meeting meeting of African parliaments on the fight against terrorism organized by Doha on 30 and 31 March.

The Shura Council and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office signed a memorandum of understanding in February 2020, which includes taking joint initiatives to strengthen the effective engagement of parliamentarians and facilitate balanced and integrated implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. The agreement includes different modes of cooperation, according to which the office was opened in Doha.
