Another counter-protest planned for Sunday | News

Counter-protesters are planning another event next Sunday in Penticton alongside a long-running weekly anti-vax rally.

Organizers of the so-called Gratitude/Kindness Rally are asking participants to meet at the corner of Main Street and Duncan Avenue in the empty lot next to Wendy’s restaurant from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“The idea is that we make signs and slogans to display not only our position on mandates, vaccines and science, but also who or what we have been grateful for over the past two years,” said organizer Ajeet Brar in a statement. email to supporters.

“This rally can also be seen as a big thank you that we will give to our frontline workers. This gathering would also feature signs that would have kind comments in general. Think of the words that make you smile and give you a little joy in these dark days. Sometimes a little reminder can make all the difference.

The first such counter-protest took place last Sunday, February 20, near the Cherry Lane shopping center, where anti-vax protesters have been gathering weekly for more than a year. The counter-protest ended early after interactions between the two sides.

Organizers hope to avoid similar clashes by moving the counter-protest to a new location about a kilometer away.
